The first recorded samples of this meteorite were found in the year 2000 in the Agoudal area of the High Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

One of these pieces found its way to a dealer who identified it as a meteorite. Later, in 2012, meteorite hunters with metal detectors discovered a large number of meteorites, they were mostly small and on the surface.

The largest piece found weighed around 60kg and was buried 50cm below the surface. Most pieces are around 2-5 cm in size and the average weight varies between 1 - 100g.

Most pieces are shrapnel shaped following the suspected "air burst” of the meteorite as it entered the atmosphere and are found with evidence of weathering, sometimes described as a "rind”.
