Obsidian is a volcanic glass that occurs in a variety of colours such as black, brown, green, red/black, brown/black, mahogany, black with rainbow patterns/colours, black and white know as snowflake obsidian.


The fragments of the rock are sharp and have been used as cutting implements.


  

Gold Sheen Obsidian is the result of black and brown Obsidian cooling with gas bubbles being trapped and forming a pattern. It is not a true mineral, sometimes classified as a mineraloid.
