Rhodonite is a manganese metasilicate mineral, its crystal system is triclinic. It occurs most often in massive or granular habits but can also crystallise in tabular form, often with rounded edges. 

Rhodonite’s name derives from the Greek word meaning ‘rose-red’, and it is usually that colour, though it can also be brownish red.

Rhodonite frequently contains black inclusions of manganese oxide.

It was once mined in the Russia Ural mountains and is now found in Sweden, Australia, India, Madagascar, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
