A calcium-sodium hydrated borate mineral, which exhibits a unique fibre optic property. When placed over a newspaper or picture, the image is carried through capillary fibres in the rock to make it visible through the rock. When viewed from the side, the fibres are distinctly visible. Ulexite is nature’s example of the fibres optic light tubes that now carry millions of telephone calls, date and T.V. pictures around the world.

First mined in Death Valley USA, Ulexite is sought after for its industrial, agricultural and pharmaceutical uses. Today it is mined at U.S. Borax’s large open pit in Boron, California.
