A lightly coloured pale amethyst from the Vera Cruz region of Mexico, it is highly prized for the beauty of the individual points. These generally thin, slightly tapered crystals are a source of much mystery as nobody apart from the miners knows exactly where they come from.

It is widely believed that the majority of the miners live in the town of

Piedra Parada in Tatalia Municipality, in the Vera Cruz region of Mexico. (Source; Mindat). However, the actual locations at which these crystals are mined are closely guarded secrets. What is known is that these crystals are almost exclusively mined by hand with minimal use of hand held power tools. This is due to strict controls on explosives in Mexico where they have to be licensed by the military.

Clusters of Vera Cruz Amethyst are unusual if not quite rare and the crystals are usually found in single points or twinned crystals. Many are found in the sceptre form and are often well defined with good colour. Crystals have often grown at odd angles to each other and give the Vera Cruz Amethyst a very distinctive appearance.
